Gabrielle is illustrating a book on “how to have” sex. Meeting a well-known author they develop a complex and revealing mentor-protégé relationship.
Gabrielle is writing an illustrated guide book on sex titled ‘How To Do It.’ At a book signing she meets Saul, an established male heterosexual writer who is fascinated by her lesbian relationship with her younger girlfriend Olivia. Gabrielle both loves and hates Saul’s work which has seeped into her life since childhood.
The more Gabrielle tells him about her book the more Saul wants to know about her life her friendships and especially Olivia, his interest appears to go beyond the boundaries of a mentor and their friendship is tested as is Gabrielle’s life with Olivia.
