Synopsis
On the sun-drenched shores of Lesvos (Lesbos), the Greek island that gave the world the word lesbian, something extraordinary has been quietly unfolding for over four decades.
Since the late 1970s, women from across the globe have made a pilgrimage to the tiny village of Skala Eressos, drawn by the ancient legacy of Sappho. What began as a trickle of curious travellers became a flood — and then a community, a sanctuary, a home. But as the lesbian community grew, so did the tensions with the conservative local villagers who had lived there for generations.
At the heart of this story stands Tzeli Hadjidimitriou a filmmaker, native of Lesvos, and a lesbian herself. Uniquely placed between both worlds, she weaves together decades of archival footage, intimate personal testimony, and her own diary entries into a breathtaking portrait of belonging, conflict, and reconciliation. Lesvia is a film about a place. But more than that, it is a film about the fierce, fragile, unstoppable human need to find somewhere you can finally call home.
